Weekend Recap

This was the first weekend since March that we had absolutely nothing planned! I have had a few weekends since then open but Chris was not in town. Finally, he wasn't traveling, at the lease or hunting. We were so ready to enjoy a weekend of married life.

He had been out of town for a week and this is how we planned our night...

So, I thought about where I wanted to go and we ended up at Master Grill in Frisco for dinner. If you have never heard of it, it is similar to Fogo de chao or Texas de Brazil. There is only one location now but they may be opening more. It was really good! I don't have any pictures for you. After dinner, we relaxed and went to bed kinda early.

I slept in on Saturday but Chris got up early to go to the shooting range. He asked if I wanted to go but since it is like 1000 degrees outside I decided to sleep in. I finally woke up around 11 and ran some errands. Bed Bath & Beyond (my favorite store), Home Depot, Michaels, JoAnn's, and Hobby Lobby were on the list of places to go. We hung out at the pool, smoked a pork loin, and hung out with another couple.

Later that night I got to work on my coaster making. Here are some of the coasters I have made so far.
Today we have nothing planned but to relax and pick up the apartment a little bit. I hope everyone has enjoyed their weekend!

Living Room

Our bedroom is still a work in progress. When I am finished with it, I will post updated pictures.

Next on my list is our living room. We have hand me down furniture that at one time was really in style. It is still really nice (IMO) but I am ready for a different brighter color scheme. I really like the neutral and tan look with a pop of color mixed in.
Kinda like these...
I think I would add a little more color, maybe in the pillow or the rug but I really like the look of these living rooms.

The only problem with getting this look is that our furniture is this color...
Sorry for the poor quality, it was taken with my IPhone

So, I am looking for a slip cover for both our chair and our couch. Has anyone purchased a slip cover that they love?

Also, our couch has cushions like the second picture so the slip cover would have to include something to cover those. Do they even make those? If you have inspiration pictures that you are using to redo your living room, I want to see!

Homemade coaster & Etsy shop

I have been looking into some DIY projects and have fallen in love with this one. One of my pet peeves is when someone sets a drink on a table without a coaster.

A friend and I are making homemade coasters and are wanting to start selling them on Etsy. Here are a few that we made today. Let me know what you think or if you are interested. We can use any pattern, color, sports team, monogram that you are interested in. Leave a comment if you want more info and spread the word for us and we will give you a big discount.

I will post a link to my etsy store once I have finished setting it up!

First set I made. I love this paper and it goes so well with our dining room colors.

Close up

Another design we made

And another

Love them!!

These are waterproof and can be used for hot or cold beverages. They can also be used to sit a candle on. They are NOT dishwasher safe. If they need to be cleaned, wipe them with a damp rag or I use a Clorox wipe.

The designs are endless and I can make any color/design you would like.

Hope you love them and spread the word!

Top 5: Beauty

Kristen from Joyful Ramblings has a top 5 Thursday theme going. This weeks theme is beauty. I have started using some new products lately and figured I would share them.

#1- Dolce & Gabbana Perfume: The One

I was looking for a new perfume to wear on our wedding day and found this one and fell in love with it. Love that it is called the one... perfect perfume for a perfect day!

#2- Martix Vavoom Hair Gel- Hold My Body

This is not one of the new products I am using, I have been using this hair gel since senior year of high school.

#3- Yon Ka Face Products

I just started using this product within the last few weeks. I sell Mary Kay (kinda) and had been using their facial products. A friend of mine swore by Yon Ka so I gave it a try and am now obsessed! It has a very strong but yummy smell!

#4- Burt's Bee's Chapstick

This is a must have. I cleaned out my purse today and had 3 tubes of it. I apply this amazing chap stick like 20 times a day!

#5- Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara

I will not leave the house without mascara on. I have tried probably 20 different brands of mascara and this is the best I have found. I also have multiple tubes of it everywhere.

What are your top 5 beauty products?

The Help

I just finished reading The Help.

Not sure what everyone else thinks about the end but I didn't like it. I am not sure what I was expecting but it just ended... I am anxious to see the movie and how the actors play out the characters in the book.

If you have read it, what did you think about the end?

Rehearsal Dinner

My post have been all over the place but I want to keep up with our wedding story. I have already written a post about 2 of our wedding showers. You can see those here and here.

I have always known that I wanted to have our rehearsal dinner at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Houston. Alicia's is amazing and I definitely recommend it if you are ever in the are. You can find them here. There are 3 or 4 locations around Houston. We had a lot of people there!

Here are some pictures from the fun night before I became a Mrs...

I thought had more pictures but I guess I have not put them on my computer. It was a fun night that ended with a ride in the car with the top down, singing really loud, and lots of girl talk!

PUPPY

Long story short, we (I) want a puppy!

I have been looking for a breeder and found a small breeder that lives a few hours away. This was a few weeks ago and he had the exact puppy that we were interested in. Here is a few pictures of the doll...

Told you, she is precious!

Well, it was decision time and we decided that we could not commit to her at that time. Note, this was only a few weeks ago.

I kept looking at the breeders website to make sure she was still there and to see updated pictures. I'm not sure if I was thinking he would just keep updating the site with new pictures of her or what. Then, I saw that there was a sale pending on her. I FREAKED out. I wanted her. I needed her. I contacted the breeder immediately and said I will do whatever I can to have her. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! He said that a family was coming to look at her in two days and if they did not get her, we were next in line.

Well, this story does not have a happy ending (yet) because we didn't get her.
I was devastated.
I cried (yes, over a puppy I had never even seen).

Fast forward to this morning... I received an email from the breeder saying his other female had her pups 2 days ago. She had 4 puppies and 1 of them is a female red-tri. So now, we are back to needing to make a decision... Should we get her or not?!??!!

The timing is not the best but is it ever? I wanted to get a puppy during the Summer so that I could be home with it for most of the day and train it. I do not believe in locking a dog in a crate and refuse to but I think we can make it work.

One plus is that she will be ready to come home right around my birthday. I already had a list ready for the hubby but now this little girl is at the top! I will post pictures of her as I get/see them.

Stay tuned!

Bedroom Makeover

My post yesterday really got me thinking about how I can redo our bedroom. It is time to grow up and make our home look like a grown ups! I have finalized my decision on our new bedding but want to show you what our current bedroom looks like (don't judge), what my inspiration has been, and what my vision (for now) is. Please be honest with any and all opinions. Next up is the living room...it needs a lot of help as well.

Current state of bedroom... Note that we are currently trying to sell the chest of drawers and night stands, as well as take the HUGE dresser back home to FIL's house. We will be replacing the furniture with black wood furniture.

I told you, it is in need of an extreme makeover!

We currently are renting a town home and do not want to paint because we do not plan to stay here much longer. I absolutely hate the gold around the sliding closet door. If anyone has a quick fix for that, I would love to hear it!

Here is my inspiration... from Pinterest of course (you can follow me here)

Like the layers & black bed frame

Love the colors, not sold on the yellow though

I love these colors that I could incorporate with the gray

Bringing in the blue that I love!
I could go on and on with inspiration photos. I think you guys get what I like.

P.S.- Do you spell gray like gray or grey?

My thoughts...
This bed, dresser, chest of drawers, & night stands

Gray & white duvet cover

Something similar to this color of quilt underneath duvet

Lamp on each night stand
Rug #1

Rug #2

There is what I am thinking, now I need your input.
What do you think?

Redecorating

I would post a picture of our bedroom and what we are currently working with but it is way messy! We currently have miss match furniture and a queen size bed. We registered for a new comforter and got it but we have changed our mind and are returning it. My grandma has recently moved out of her house because she is unable to stay there alone. She is giving us her almost brand new bedroom suite but we are not getting it until we move into our own house. Something to look forward to. Anyway, I think I have found something that we both like but it is a duvet. We have never had a duvet for a couple reasons but the biggest being that I am afraid the duvet comforter will fall inside of the duvet. Does anyone have any tips to prevent this?

Here is the set that we are probably going to go with.

The bedroom suite that we are getting is a dark brown wood. Do you think the gray/purple will go ok with it?

I am ready to get our bedroom redone and make it feel more grown up and homy. If you have done a show us your bedroom post, leave a comment so I can go look. I need some major inspiration for our bedroom (and the rest of our home).

This week

Lambert's Lately is doing a very simple link up about this past week. My week looked a little like this...

Monday- I laid out at the pool with a friend. For dinner I made a simple crock pot meal.

Tuesday- I worked on my second to last grad school paper and had what I thought was my second to last class but it ended up being my last class. I had Wendy's for dinner.

Wednesday- I blogged about this day but in case you missed it, I laid out with some teacher friends and then we went to Rooster's for an early dinner. H & I had plans for dinner and it turned about yummy. We made calzones!

Thursday- Was a busy day. I had to finish my last grad school assignment yesterday morning. I then met up with some of my best friends to have lunch. We had lunch at Bj's which is one of my favorite places to eat! I went home for a few hours and then went back to Bj's to celebrate being finished with grad school with my cohort. I was blessed to get into a cohort that was ended up being really close and helpful to each other. The past 2 years would have been a lot more difficult with them to keep each other going!

Friday- Today (duh)! I just woke up... I checked facebook, my email and then got on Blogger and the Lambert's was the blog I read and now I am linking up. I really do not have many plans for today other than cleaning and doing laundry. 2 of my least favorite things to do...

I can't have this be a picture less post so here are a few random pictures.

What I wake up to every morning (H has left for work by the time I am up)

Horrible picture but this is back when we were still in high school. I went on a cruise with my family and got my hair done like this. Never again...it took FOREVER to take all of the braids out.

This is my favorite restaurant in the French Quarter.

I did say they were random. Link up here and tell us about your week!

Have a great Friday and an even better weekend.

Teachers & Calzones

What?!?! 3 post in one day...it must be Summer!

I just got home from an awesome day with some awesome friends. I am so thankful to work with the ladies that I do. My day, week, year, is so much better at work since I get to work with them. Here is what teachers do during the Summer...
Love them!!

After laying out at the pool we went to an awesome restaurant in Denton for an early dinner. If you are in the area anytime, you should stop and try this awesome place!
YUM!!

I headed home after that because H and I had plans for dinner. I found a recipe on Pinterest (of course) and have been wanting to try it since I found it. The recipe was for homemade Calzones. I will post it but I want to post the pictures of our creations first. H doesn't bake or cook much in the kitchen. He normally does the outside stuff and I do the inside sides. One would never believe that after looking at our pictures of dinner.
H's Calzone- perfect

My Calzone- ugly
Finished product. They were so yummy!!

You can find the recipe here.

Enjoy your Wednesday night!
