Weekly Meal Plan & Weekend Recap

My weekend consisted of one thing...RELAXING & it was perfect!

Chris and I tried a new restaurant near our house. It was a Mexican food place named Matt's. I had been wanting to try it for a while but we were a little hesitant... a Mexican food restaurant named Matt, hmm. It was actually really good!! We spent the rest of Friday night at home watching the Opening Ceremonies. They were a bit strange but good for the most part.

We have an upstairs game room that until Saturday had nothing in it besides our old couch and chair. Chris has been on the hunt for the perfect pool table to fill the space. He had been going back and forth with a guy that lived near by and finally they worked something out. Saturday morning we met some movers at the guys house and brought the pool table to it's new home! Just for the record, I won the first game!
Once it was setup and we played a couple games, we headed to a friends house to hang out at the pool for the day. It was really hot but we lasted a few hours and at least I got a little color!
On the way home, we stopped by one of my favorite grocery stores called Central Market. If you have a Central Market near you, you know just how awesome they are. We decided to be lazy and get pre-made burgers. They have an amazing bakery section so we got some fresh buns to go with. Yum!!
(Don't judge, I got a little carried away with the ketchup!)

Sunday was another uneventful, amazing day! Chris slept in and I worked on some Etsy orders that morning. I delivered a few orders and came back home to lunch made by Chris. We watched swimming and women's gymnastics and then called it a night.

I need to get dressed and go to the grocery store! Here are our meals for the week:
Sunday- We had leftovers
Monday- Stir Fry
Tuesday- Roast & potatoes in the crock pot
Wednesday- Texas Roadhouse
Thursday- Breakfast: eggs, bacon, hash browns, & biscuits w/gravy
Friday & Saturday- My family is coming up to visit so we will probably eat out or grill something at the house

Pretty simple week for meals, it's rare that we don't try a new recipe but I have a few planned for next week! Hope everyone has a great Monday!!

Sunday Social

This is the first time that I am participating in this link up but before I get started with that, do you notice anything different??

Kristen over at From Kristen, With Love is the designer behind it's awesomeness! She was awesome to work with, really quick to respond, and had great ideas! I gave her some colors I liked and she ran with it. I definitely recommend her if you are thinking about a new blog design!!

If you are not following Neely over at A Complete Waste of Makeup, you are really missing out!! Not only is she awesome, but she is hosting an amazing giveaway for reaching 2,000 followers! I am linking up with her for Sunday Social which is where she post random questions and you answer them!  Go check her (& her giveaway) out!!

Here are this weeks questions & my answers:

1) What is your dream job?
Teaching, the one I have now!! Seriously, I have always wanted to be a teacher and the position I have now could not be better! I get to work with great friends all day. Some day, I would like to move into administration, but it will still be in the same field!!

2) If you had just won the lottery and didn't need to work for money, what would you do with your time?
Go crazy!! I always have to be doing something. I don't know if I would stay in teaching (because let's be honest, you don't go into that profession for the $$!) but I would have to     keep myself busy. If I quit teaching, I would travel, volunteer, craft, and really enjoy life to it's fullest!

3) When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I answered this above, but again I wanted to be a teacher. I would play school with my friends, dolls, self, or whoever would play with me.

4) What piece career advice would you give to someone just starting out in your field?
Do what you know and do it well! I feel like there are teachers that are always trying to one up the others. We are all professionals, have an opinion, and our own way of teaching.

5) Biggest Pet Peeves either in life or in blogging or at work?
This could turn into a very long answer but I will try to keep it short:
Life- Slow drivers in the fast lane and being in the right turn lane at a red light but not turning.
Blogging- I don't like blogs that post the same kind of stuff everyday. I like random blogs (like mine) that really help you get to know the person. I also can't stand blogs that seem to try to hard, be yourself!!
Work- Talking bad about the kids when you don't know the whole story, not turning something in when it is due (people don't ask for things for fun), and pointless meetings that waste my time!!

6) Biggest Fears:
Drowning, hands down! & bugs, don't do bugs!!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! We will be eating, relaxing, and watching the Olympics.

Meal Plan & Weekend Recap

I am excited to say that there are changes coming to my blog! I am working with Kristen from Kristen Danielle Designs. My blog has been in need of a makeover for a long time!! Kristen has been awesome and has great design ideas. If you are looking for a new blog design, I definitely recommend her!

I am very excited that I am back to meal planning yet again! Our meals are pretty simple for this week but I am trying 2 new recipes.

Sunday-
Grilling steaks, potatoes, and beans (easy night for me!)

Monday-
Meatballs, rice, and gravy served with green beans and rolls

Tuesday-

Wednesday-
Texas Roadhouse

Thursday-
This recipe is all over pinterest but this is the first blog that I have found it laid out with a recipe and all.

Friday-Saturday-
We have some friends coming in town and I'm sure we will grill one night and go out to eat the other.

This past weekend was one of the most relaxing that we have had since I can remember! It was so nice to have no big plans and really get to spend time with each other.

Friday night, we were planning to go to dinner and then see The Dark Rises batman movie. We haven't been to the movies together since we went and saw Passion of the Christ. Apparently, we are not big movie goers! We had dinner at a place near our house called Hullihans. It sucked lol! We ended up not going to see the movie because we were tired but may go see it soon.

Saturday, we slept in and then got donuts and kolaches from a near by donut shop. They have the best kolaches I have ever had! I had a Scentsy party later that day and Chris cut the grass. We got stuff to grill that night but were tired so ended up making grilled cheese and macaroni.

Sunday was just as exciting, we slept in and then grilled dinner.

Like I said, a very relaxing, lazy, much needed weekend! I hope your Monday has gone by quickly!

Blogger 411

Becky over at fromMrstoMama hosted a fun link up the other day. I am a few days behind but it is still open and I hope to find some new blogs to read from it!
1. How long have you been blogging? And what got you started on blogging? Has your blog changed?
I have been blogging over at Moments Like This for a little over a year. I was watching the news one night and saw a story about a family that was due to have quadruplets any day. They kept talking about how the soon to be mom had been giving updates about her pregnancy on her blog. I checked it out one night and it took off from there. I read blogs for a few months before starting my own. My blog hasn't really changed much. I try to post a few times a week and hope to get better at posting more often.

2. Did you go to college? If so where, and what did you study?
I did! I attended Texas A&M (whoop!) for my undergrad and Concordia University for my masters. I absolutely loved my time in College Station and my husband and I go back for every home football game!

3. Where have you traveled?
I have traveled to different parts of Mexico on a cruise and to Antigua for our honeymoon. I have also been to around 20 states for different vacations.

4. If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would buy?
Hmm, I can think of a lot of things I would like to buy for our new house but I would probably foot the bill of the trip my family is taking to Hawaii over spring break. Our family has been through a lot in the past month and I would like nothing more than to help out with that!

5. What are your 3 biggest pet peeves?
- Slow drivers in the fast lane!
- People wasting my time!
- Dishes being left in the sink with food still on them! (really, don't even bother putting them in the sink)

6. What is your favorite movie?
I really am not a huge movie person. I can't really think of one favorite movie but more of a kind of movie I like. I could sit and watch Disney movies all night! Shrek, Toy Story, The Incredibles, etc.

7. What is your drink of choice; wine, beer, or liquor. Or Water, Soda, Tea?
My day does not start until I have had a Coke Zero! I rarely drink water but am trying to fix that. As far as alcohol, I like vodka, Riesling, or Ace Pear.

8. What is something you enjoy to do when you have me time?
Take a bubble bath while blogging or reading a good book!

9. If you could have a $10,000 shopping spree to one store, which store would it be?
At this time in my life, probably Bassett furniture. My husband and I just built our first home and I want nothing more but to fill it with beautiful furniture. I have our bedroom, dining room, and living room tables picked out and will slowly purchase them all! A close second is Target. I am slightly obsessed with the store and you can get anything and everything you could ever really need!

10. Share with us an embarrassing moment of your past? Or present.
Well, I embarress myself on pretty much a daily basis so I have plenty to pick from. I will go with the most recent which happened at one of my best friends weddings this past weekend. A little back story, I introduced the two of them and am very very proud of it! During their ceremony the preacher was talking about them as young children. He says to raise your hand if you have known the couple since the beginning. I am one to quickly assume I know exactly what everyone is talking about so I shoot my hand up in the air, wave it around like I just don't care (sorry, couldn't help myself) and then realize that he is talking about who has known them both since birth... Oops! I am sure more people than I wish noticed my mistake but I was humiliated!!

11. What day would you love to relive again?
Hands down, our wedding day! It was by far the best day of my (our) lives so far! I wish that I had slowed down a little bit and soaked everything in a little bit more.

12. If your life was turned into a movie... what actor would play you?
No clue!

13. What are the jobs you had in high school/college/the early years?
I started working as soon as I possibly could! I loved the responsibility it made me feel. My first job was as a secretary at my mom's office. Second was a hostess at Texas Roadhouse. I was also a lifeguard for 3 summers during high school. When I went of to college, I worked at American Eagle and the on-campus daycare at A&M. Since graduating from college, I have had my dream job of teaching.

14. Show us a picture from high school or college.
This is a picture of my husband and I getting ready for prom our senior year of high school.
This is me getting my Aggie Ring junior year of college.

15. If you could travel anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would you go?
I'm sure this is a very popular answer, but I would love to go to Bora Bora!

16. Show us the most current picture of you or you, or your family, or anything of meaning to you.
This picture was taken at the wedding I was talking about earlier that was this past weekend. It is my new favorite picture of us and I wish the quality was a little better, it was taken with an iPhone.

17. Where do you see your life 5 years from now?
Happily married, in the same house, an assistant principal, with a baby!!

Losing my grandmother

I haven't blogged in the past few weeks. If you follow me on twitter, you probably already know that my Mamaw recently passed away. I want to say thank you to all of you who thought, prayed, and sent well wishes to my family and I.

I have been out of town, out of my routine, and spending a lot of quality time with my family. The past few weeks have been pretty tough for my family and I. My grandmother had been battling cancer for around 8 years now. She had beat it twice and then refused any kind of treatment this last time around. I really can't blame her for that decision. As much as I wanted her to fight it again, she just didn't have it in her. I realize now, how selfish it was for me to want so badly to keep her around. Since my Papaw passed away, she hasn't been the same. She was lonely and was longing to join him in heaven. The good memories I have with both of them are helping me get through the hard times we are facing now.

I called my Mamaw EVERY SINGLE DAY on the way home from work. It was part of my routine. She looked forward to the calls everyday and would remind me every time I talked to her just how much they meant to her. I wish I had told her on my last phone call to her how much they also meant to me.

Up until the last few days of her life, I was by her side talking to her, telling her how much I loved her and that Papaw was waiting for her in heaven. The last few days she was not the same. She was deteriorating quickly and I just couldn't make myself go into see her like that. She was not recognizing people anymore. I will never forget the last thing she said to me... I walked in one afternoon after rushing home from Dallas. She looked into my eyes, started crying and said, "Oh Allison, I am finally going to heaven."

I helped my dad and stepmom watch my little brother and sister while they spent time up there with her the last few days. My little brother (who is 11) was a trooper and wanted to be there by her side every minute. It got to the point that it wasn't healthy for him to be there so that's when I took on the sister role and entertained them.

My grandma was an amazing woman that had a heart of gold. She was very demanding at times but that is only because my Papaw took such great care of her when he was alive. Before he passed away, she had never once in her life put gas in a car. I would not have wished her to be any other way. She was such a blessing to so many people and I still can not believe she is gone. This post is not meant to be a sad one but more of a post dedicated to her. She did not like having her picture taken so I only have a few of her in the last few years of life. The picture below will be a picture I cherish forever. This was such a special moment in my life and her being there meant the world to me!

I love you Mamaw and miss you more than I could ever put into words!

Sometimes & Always

I have participated in Megan's link up a few times before but haven't in awhile. I love this link up because it helps you find the good, happy, and truth in your life. Go link up with Megan for Sometimes & Always!!

Sometimes: I wish I wasn't such a workaholic!

Always: The paycheck always makes it worth it!

Sometimes: I plan to have only water for the day.

Always: End up drinking more Coke Zero then I normally do.

Sometimes: I wish we could travel the world and see places on my bucket list.

Always: I remember that I am a home-body and love to be home in our special space!

Sometimes: I think today is the day that I will workout and eat better.

Always: I push it to tomorrow...

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday! Today is the last day of summer school and I am so excited! The money is definitely worth it because it is such a short time but it is very tiring. I cannot wait to do what I want, when I want, for the rest of the summer!!
